SUMMARY:Learning to Attend @ ZPC
DESCRIPTION:Learning to Attend je otvoreno dijeljenje koje sažima dvotjedno istraživanje Mie Štark i Dorote Michalak, poljske plesačice i koreografkinje. Postavlja\npitanje možemo li zamisliti priručnik za emocionalne i senzo-motoričke hitnosti.\nKao i u prijašnjim radovima, Mia nastavlja svoje istraživanje i glavne točke interesa: odnosi – međuljudski i strukturni – posebno odnosi između pojedinaca, društva i medija te načini na koje se informacije, poruke i značenja prenose, posreduju i iskrivljuju.\nKADA: 25.4.2026. u 17h\nGDJE: Zagrebački plesni centar – BIJELA DVORANA\nVelika hvala Zagrebačkom plesnom centru.\n \n\nLearning to Attend is an open sharing/gathering summarizing two weeks research by Mia Štark and Dorota Michalak, Polish dancer and choreographer. Dorota and Mia are inviting both the dance community and everybody interested in psychological and emotional care and embodiment, for exchange and experimentation around the topic of safety in community, modes of attention and the potentiality of touch.\nThis two week research was a meeting point of Mia and Dorota. They will be sharing insides from the work in process – but (!) be prepared to be physically and emotionally engaged.\nThe gathering features new work in development. After the sharing there will be an opportunity for talking, mingling, and discussing the topic from different perspectives. Learning to Attend is a chapter in bigger research that explores how we respond to bodily reactions caused by psychological and/or states of high emotional urgency. The bodies that we are trying to understand are bodies in distress in shared and common space, bodies that are exposed but not taken care of. The feelings, sensations and states of helplessness that we might be going through, yet in such a fragile moment we might not know how to be there for each other. Inspired by the structure of a first aid manual, the piece studies its clear procedural language to develop a movement vocabulary for moments of emotional overwhelm. It asks whether we can imagine a manual for emotional and sensory crises.\nŠtark’s main points of interest are relationships—both interpersonal and structural—particularly the relationships between individuals, society, and media, and the ways in which information, messages, and meanings are transmitted, mediated, and distorted.\n*The project was carried out as part of the Adam Mickiewicz Institute’s ReSide program. Co-financed by the Minister of Culture and National Heritage of the Republic of Poland. iam.pl\nculture.pl\n
